A refraction interpretation method that is a generalization of the plus-minus method (q.v.). It is based on determining the critical distance, i.e., the point where head waves leave the refractor when shooting in opposite directions. It takes into account noncoincidence of the stations used for calculating plus values. See Palmer (1980).
