A number of geophones permanently connected at intervals along a short cable, used for one geophone group. A typical flyer might contain, for example, six geophones connected in series at 6-m intervals, with clips at the end for connecting it to the main cable that carries the signal to the recording equipment. Synonym: geophone string.
