(fā’ shēz) 1. The characteristics that distinguish a rock from adjacent rocks, such as lithology (lithofacies), fossil content (biofacies), color, sedimentary structures, grain-size distribution, etc. 2. Reflection patterns that are characteristic of depositional environments; see seismic facies.
