1. The capacity to do work.

2. The sum of the squares of the amplitudes of the elements in a wavelet (times a proportionality constant that is often omitted). Thus if the wavelet $b_{t}$ is

$b_{t}=\left[b_{0},b_{1},b_{2},b_{3},\ldots ,b_{n}\right]$,

the energy is

$k\left(b_{0}^{2}+b_{1}^{2}+b_{2}^{2}+b_{3}^{2}+\ldots +b_{n}^{2}\right)=k\Sigma b_{i}^{2}$,

given by the value of the autocorrelation at zero shift.

3. Depositional energy refers to the kinetic energy (because of waves or currents) present in the environment in which sediments were deposited. High energy has the capability of producing good particle-size sorting.
