Dictionary:Direct push

The use of the weight of a truck or other heavy vehicle to push a metal probing device into the ground. The force required to move the probe downward is sometimes monitored to produce a vertical log of penetration resistance. The probe is often instrumented with geophysical logging tools to obtain physical parameters of engineering or environmental interest. No soil or rock samples are brought to the surface with this technique. The hole may be backfilled with grout as the probe is removed from the ground. Sometimes referred to as a Geoprobe technique, which is a trade name.
