{{#category_index:D|direct detection}}
A measurement (never ‘‘direct’’) that may indicate the presence or absence of hydrocarbons. Sometimes considered synonomous with bright spot (q.v.). Effective under some circumstances, but no universal method has been found. Also called direct hydrocarbon detection or indication (DHD or DHI). See hydrocarbon indicator and Figure H-10.
