{{#category_index:C|correlation sonar}} A navigation/positioning system. The reflection interference pattern resulting from a pair of sonar pulses a few tens of milliseconds apart is observed by a sonar array. Successive observations are correlated with each other to find the amount of movement of the ship between the observations, and hence its velocity. The data can be integrated to give position with respect to a starting point. See Dickey and Edward (1978).
