# Dictionary:Complex frequency

A damped wave can be expressed as the product of an absorption factor ${\displaystyle e^{-\alpha t}}$ and a periodic factor ${\displaystyle e^{i\omega t}}$:
${\displaystyle Ae^{-\alpha t}e^{i\omega t}=Ae^{i(\omega +i\alpha )t}\;}$,
where ${\displaystyle \left(\omega +i\alpha \right)}$ is the complex frequency.
