{{#category_index:C|carry}} 1. In arithmetic operations, the transfer of a value from a lower order position to the next higher order position as a result of the lower order having equaled or exceeded the base of the number system. For example, if subscripts indicate the base,

$8_{10}+2_{10}=0+\;{\text{carry}}\;10_{10}$ $1_{2}+1_{2}=0+\;{\text{carry}}\;2_{2}$.

2. A computer status bit that indicates whether or not the last arithmetic operation resulted in a carry from high-order bit position.
