{{#category_index:B|broomstick charge}} A directional charge consisting mainly of a long helical coil of detonating cord wound around a dowel (broomstick). The pitch of the helix is such that the speed of the explosion front along the axis of the helix is approximately equal to the seismic velocity in the surrounding medium. Used to increase the sharpness of a downward-traveling wave and to reduce ghosting.
