{{#category_index:B|bremsstrahlung}} (brem’ shtra l∂ng) Radiation that results when a charged particle experiences an acceleration while in the field of another charged particle. An electron accelerating as it approaches a nucleus will be deflected and low energy γ-rays and X-rays will be emitted. The radiation is a continuum from zero energy to the maximum kinetic energy of the electron. From the German for ‘‘braking radiation.’’
