A reflection that roughly parallels the seafloor reflection, presumably caused by the contrast between an overlying clathrate (gas hydrate) and underlying gas-saturated sediments or occasionally by opal transition. Especially seen in deep water where subseafloor sediments are at low temperature but under substantial pressure. See Sheriff and Geldart (1995, 128, 131).
