A theory of seismic wave travel in porous media that predicts three wave types: P- and S-waves and a Biot slow wave. The slow wave couples wave motion to fluid diffusion and propagates at velocities≈10 m/s; it was observed experimentally by Plona (1980). See Biot (1956).
