{{#category_index:B|binary-coded decimal (BCD)}} A number system code in which decimal digits are represented by four binary digits (see Figure N-4). For example, in the BCD number 0010 0111, the 0010 represents 21×10=20 and the 0111 represents 22+21+20=7, giving the decimal number 27. The excess-three code (BCDXS3) is the BCD number plus 0011 (three).
