A. H. Thompson received a B.Sc. and an M.Sc. (1966) in physics, mathematics, and mechanical engineering from Ohio State University and a Ph.D. in physics (1970) from Stanford University, California. He has published more than 100 papers on superconductivity, electrochemistry, advanced battery systems, solar energy, physics of electron devices, transport properties of fluids in porous media, percolation theory, nuclear magnetic resonance, finite-size scaling in reservoir rock, and coupling of electromagnetic and seismic energies. He holds 76 patents. After 32 years of employment, Thompson retired from ExxonMobil in 2003. He is researching dielectric properties of porous media and electroseismic conversion. Thompson is a Fellow of the American Physical Society
