A. M. (Red) Olander served as the 1984-1985 SEG President.

A.M (Red) Olander, candidate for President, has been an Active Member of SEG
for 32 years. He has served the Society as Secretary-Treasurer in 1981-82,
as Associate Editor of GEOPHYSICS, and as a member of the Continuing
Education Committee. He also chaired the SEG Program Committee for the
Offshore Technology Conference and has represented SEG on the OTC executive
committee for the past 2 years.
Olander served the Geophysical Society of Houston as President, first Vice-President, and was elected a Life Member in 1983 in recognition and appreciation of exceptional meritorious service to the Society. He has also served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Southeastern Geological Society in Tallahassee, Florida.
Olander received his B.S. degree in geology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1948 after service in the Army Air Force in World War II. Following graduation, he began his geophysical career with Humble Oil and Refining Co., now Exxon Co., USA, as a computer on a seismic crew in South Texas. He has had assignments in seismic data acquisition, data processing, and interpretation. Most of his career has been seismic interpretation where has has been a strong supporter of the concept of integrating geophysical and geologic data in the development of petroleum prospects.
His work assignments have covered a large geographical area including the Gulf Coast, the basins in West Texas and New Mexico, offshore California, Alaska, and Canada. In addition to Houston these assignments have taken him to Exxon?s Southeastern and Southwestern Divisions in New Orleans and Midland. He has been the division geophysical manager in Exxon's Alaska-Pacific Division and is currently he division geophysical manager in the Gulf Coast Division.
Olander is also a member of AAPG, EAEG, AGU, the Geophysical Society of Houston, and the Houston Geological Society.
