General information
The University of Memphis SEG Student Chapter is a registered student organization in the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) since 2012. The chapter is hosted by the Center for Earthquake Research and Information (CERI). It serves as a platform between you and the geoscience profession, so you can develop skills, acquire knowledge, and learn about industry internships and job opportunities. The student chapter currently has more than 20 members with diverse backgrounds, including students from the Center for Earthquake Research and Information (CERI), Department of Civil Engineering (CE), and Department of Earth Sciences (DES).
Joining this student chapter has many benefits, including:
- Attending the SEG/Chevron Student Leadership Symposium (SLS) program
- Attending the SEG/ExxonMobil Student Education (SEP) program
- Attending the SEG Challenge BowlAttending the SEG EVOLVE program
- Attending the SEG field trip programs
- Travel grants to SEG conferences and for scientific research
- Meet with recruiters from the oil industry for possible internships and job opportunities
- Opportunities for visits from SEG distinguished and honorary lecturers
- Free books through the Fred and Kathi Hilterman SEG Foundation Student Chapter Book Program for the student chapter's library
- Monthly issues of The Leading Edge (TLE) for the student chapter's library
- Bimonthly issues of Geophysics for the student chapter's library
- Annual distinguished instructor short courses on DVD for the student chapter's library
- Annual distinguished lectures on CD for the student chapter's library
- SEG annual meeting Expanded Abstracts on CD for the student chapter's library
The student chapter is not just for geophysicists! Engineers, geologists, physicists, mathematicians, and others also benefit from participation. Membership in the Geophysical Society is available to anyone who is a full-time graduate or undergraduate student and in good standing at the University of Memphis.
