The SEG Student Field Camp entitled „ Extracting subsurface physical properties from natural Earth responses” took place in Sacel village located in the North of Romania at nearly 40 km south of Ukraine border, in the S-E part of Maramureş County. The Field Camp started on 4th of September and the geological survey and data acquisition ended on 11th of September. Twenty participants from Poland, Romania and Ukraine were involved in the 2017 SEG Field Camp. The main achievements of the Field Camp consisted in realizing a successful training of geophysical and geochemical methods in order to obtain physical properties, lithological and structural subsurface information and also in showing to the local communities/authorities the non-destructive character of using geophysical measurements, especially shallow seismic reflection measurements. The project ended with two workshops that took place in Bucharest. Furthermore, Alexandru Badescu, and Cristina Ruse, a SEG member for many years, took part in the 2017 SEG Annual Meeting.

The 2018 SEG Student Field Camp took place in Poiana village located in the South of Romania, in the central part of Valcea County. The Field Camp started on 1st of September and the geological survey and data acquisition ended on 12th of September. 24 participants from Poland, Romania, Ukraine and Russia were involved in the 2018 SEG Field Camp. The main achievements of the Field Camp consist in realizing a successful training of geophysical, geological and geotechnical methods in order to identify the structural and lithologic profile along the projected tunnel line and also in showing to the local communities/authorities the non-destructive character, efficiency and minimal costs of the used geophysical measurements. The SEG Outreach Program took place in Politehnica Park, Bucharest and had three main stages: high school conferences (February-May 2018), field trip and workshop stages (2nd of June 2018). Throughout a registration form, 15 students from 4 different high schools confirmed their participation.  The main achievement of the program is that it created an amazing and unique activity for the young students which are now able to determine if they want to pursue a career in geophysics.

The SEG Student Field Camp entitled „Hydrogeophysical investigation of the environmental hazards from the Romanian Black Sea coastline” took place in Vama Veche village located in the South-East of Romania at nearly 1 km north of the Bulgarian border, in Constanța County. The Field Camp started on the 24th of August and the geological survey and data acquisition ended on the 2nd of September. Twenty participants from Poland and Romania were involved in the 2019 SEG Field Camp (3 Polish and 17 Romanian with a 1 to 1 female to male ratio). The main achievements of the Field Camp consisted in identifying the line between the brackish water intrusion and the Sarmatian freshwater aquifer, showing how important is to integrate several geophysical methods combined with geological data in order to obtain the best interpretation and also in showing to the local communities/authorities the non-destructive character, efficiency and minimal costs of geophysical measurements, especially the electric and magnetic measurements. Also, during this field camp, we visited various social and cultural places in Bucharest, had an icebreaker where we had the chance to get acquainted with each other and network. The project ended with a workshop that took place in Bucharest. On the 23rd of November SEG Bucharest Student Chapter organized a one-day geophysical workshop called “Geophysical Workshop- Vama Veche data processing”.

Throughout a registration form, 15 students from 4 different high schools confirmed their participation.  The main achievement of the program is that it created an amazing and unique activity for the young students which are now able to determine if they want to pursue a career in geophysics.

The SEG EVOLVE Lecturer Allen J. Bertagne was a welcomed guest for our chapter and his presentation took place on the 2nd of May 2018. Seventeen students from our university participated at this event and found answers to some of the most important dilemmas for a geoscience student. His speech motivated the students to strive forward and to work hard for their careers in this field of study.

Furthermore, Catalina Lacatusu, president of our chapter, Alexandru Badescu, 2017 president of the chapter, and Cristina Ruse, a SEG member took part in the 2018 SEG Annual Meeting. Catalina attended the SLS/Chevron Student Leadership Symposium which offered her the opportunity to improve her leadership skills and to connect with people from all around the world.
