As stated early in this section, residual statics estimation by traveltime decomposition consists of three stages: picking, decomposing, and applying residual static shifts. The picking phase, in which traveltime deviations are derived from trace crosscorrelations, determines the effectiveness of residual statics corrections. We now examine various parameters involved in the picking phase.
