A prescribed value of a solution or its derivative or some combination on a mathematical surface in a problem. Such a surface need not be the confining surface of a finite volume, but may be any desired surface. When a medium is unbounded its containing surface is taken to be infinitely distant from the source and receiver. Radiation conditions are the boundary condition for the boundary at infinity.
