Frank Searcy was a geophysicist first at Marland Oil Company and later when Marland bought the Continental Oil Company, and the resulting company became the Continental Oil Company (CONOCO). His career spanned a period began in 1927 through his retirement in 1972. According to a 1975 letter by William E. Laing, Director of Geophysics, Continental Oil Company, issued announcing Frank Searcy's book Geophysics - The First Fifty Years
- The history of Geophysics from 1927 to 1921 to 1975, 54 years is generally a history of equipment development. Frank Searcy lived 45 years of that history from 1927 to 1972, actively developing, supervising or promoting equipment. No other man could have put this book together.

Frank Searcy was awarded Life Membership in SEG for his place in industry and his service to the Society of Exploration Geophysics.
