A mode of EM wave propagation in which the magnetic field is perpendicular to the direction of propagation. In 2D modeling and processing of magnetotellric (q.v.) data, transverse magnetic is the mode in which the magnetic field is parallel to strike. Also called H-polarization. See also transverse electric.
