Extending so far that some of the boundaries have no effect. Thus a semi-infinite slab is a horizontal unit of finite thickness bounded by a vertical plane on one side but extending so far in other directions that the boundaries in those directions create no measurable effects. A semi-infinite prism is a vertical prism with a bottom so remote as to not affect measurements. See Figure M-15.
