1. An end point of a branch in a network, or a junction common to two or more branches in a network or mesh. 2. One data item in a linked list. 3. A point of rest in a vibrating system, a result of the interference of oppositely directed wavetrains (standing waves); e.g., one of the stationary points on a vibrating string. 4. The intersection of the Earth’s orbit with the ecliptic plane. 5. A single seismometer (often multicomponent) as opposed to a receiver group. 6. A node system for 3-component recording uses single seismometers without a cable connecting them to avoid biasing the horizontal component recordings. Data are sometimes transmitted by radio, or sometimes stored for future harvesting.
