A method of IP surveying involving measurement of the transient magnetic (rather than electric) field caused by galvanic currents. Involves measuring the normalized primary magnetic field ${\displaystyle H_{N},}$

where ${\displaystyle H_{P}}$ is the steady-state magnetic field amplitude measured at a single transmitter frequency, ${\displaystyle H_{P}'}$ is the value calculated for uniform ground, and the magnetometric resistivity (MMR),

where ${\displaystyle H_{P0}}$ is the predicted uniform-ground primary field at the midpoint between the current electrodes. The magnetic fields are in the picotesla range and require a very sensitive low-noise magnetometer for their measurement. See Seigel and Howland-Rose (1983)[1].
