Dictionary:Hydrocarbon indicator (HCI)
A measurement that suggests the presence of a hydrocarbon accumulation. See Figure H-10 for a list of indicators and the entries for the individual indicators. See also AVO. The indicators can also be caused by things other than hydrocarbons. Sometimes called DHI for ‘‘direct HCI’’ or direct detection, although there is nothing direct about them. See Sheriff (1980, chap. 9), Sheriff and Geldart (1995, 415–418).
