Migration (q.v.) in which the wave equation ${\displaystyle \phi (x,0,t)}$ is transformed into the frequency-wavenumber domain.

${\displaystyle \phi (x,0,t)\rightarrow \Phi (k_{x},k_{z},\omega )}$,

various operations are performed, and then it is transformed back,

${\displaystyle \Phi (k_{x},k_{z},\omega )\rightarrow \phi (x,z,0)}$,

which is the sought-for solution. See Sheriff and Geldart (1995, 334) [1].
