1. A spread that makes a large angle (often a right angle) with the line of traverse. The objective is to obtain cross information, i.e., information about dip perpendicular to the line, which will permit determining the true direction from which energy reaches the spread so that the true position of the reflector in space can be determined. See Figure C-19. 2. A spread in the shape of a cross; for example, a number of groups laid out in line and perpendicularly. See Figure S-18.
