J. Dan Skelton, candidate for President, has been an SEG member for 20 years. He is currently Chairman of the Professional Affairs Committee and was Vice-President of the Society in 1973. Mr. Skelton was General Chairman of the 41st Annual International SEG Meeting in Houston and is a former 1st Vice-President of the Geophysical Society of Tulsa. He also served as Chairman of the Society's Magnetic Recording Committee. In 1967, Mr. Skelton was Chairman of the Geological Data Processing Panel at the World Petroleum Congress in Mexico City. He is active in the Geophysical Society of Houston, AAPG, Marine Technology Society, the International Association of Mathematical Geologists, and Photographic Society of America. He is a member of the Professional Organization Committee of the American Geological Institute.
Mr. Skelton's professional career has involved geophysics research, exploration operations, and exploration data processing. He joined the Carter Oil Co. in 1948, working in the areas of seismic equipment design and interpretation research. He became division manager of geophysics for the Jersey Production Research Co. in 1958, and a vice-president and director of the same company in 1963. In 1964, Mr. Skelton was elected a vice-president and director of Esso Production Research Co. In 1967, he moved to the Humble Oil and Refining Co. as assistant manager of the Eastern Marine Exploration Division. Dan currently is manager of Exxon?s Exploration Data Processing Center. He holds 14 U.S. patents and has presented and published a number of technical papers.
Dan was born in Wichita, Kansas. He received a B.S.E.E. from Kansas State University in 1948, and an M.S.E.E. from Oklahoma State University in 1954. He served in the Armed Forces as an aerial navigator. He is married and has three children and a grandson.
