optically pumped magnetometer

A magnetometer such as the cesium or rubidium-vapor magnetometer that involves nuclear magnetic resonance as a transfer mechanism between light and an RF field at the Larmor frequency. See Figure O-3. Such magnetometers can be made extremely sensitive (≈0.001 nT). They measure absolutely the total magnetic field.
